Why compare leased line prices?
To obtain the best, most cost-effective, leased line quotes for your area it is always best to use an ISP who compares connectivity from all the main UK telecoms providers giving you the best choice available.
The reason for this is a leased line connection is charged on a per km charge for the fibre from your premises to the nearest leased line point of presence.
Using a comparison provider ensures your leased line terminates to the nearest leased line point of prescence, compares the best provider within telephone exchange (pop) and ensures you get the best contract length.

What is the difference between EFM (Ethernet First Mile) and a Fibre Optic Leased Line?
An EFM circuit uses pairs of copper wires to provide an internet connection. As a result, an EFM circuit is limited to the bandwidth it can provide where using a fibre optic leased line delivers up to 10Gbps in symmetrical upload and download speeds.
How long does it take to provision a leased line?
leased line provisioning can take anywhere from 20 working days to 65 working days depending on whether excess construction charges are identified, and the underlying provider used.
In some cases where the fibre provider has no existing infrastructure into a customer premises a wayleave is required that can extend the length of time provisioning takes.
At Stream we will compare the providers within your area and ensure we use a provider with existing infrastructure in place.

What is the difference between a business broadband (ADSL, FTTC, FTTP Gigabit Broadband), and a leased line?
A business broadband connection uses multiple different technologies to deliver an Internet connection to a customer’s premises from a copper ADSL circuit to new FTTP technology (Fibre to the Premises). Business broadband speeds will differ from a maximum of 24Mbs for an ADSL Circuit to 1Gbps for an FTTP circuit however, all business broadband circuits have asymmetric speeds providing download speeds higher than upload speeds compared to symmetric speeds for a leased line.
Business broadband circuits are also often contended where leased lines are uncontended. This means with a leased line your connection won’t be slowed down at peak times.
Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) are also different between a broadband connection and a leased line. With a Leased Line the SLA provides a 4-hour fix time to major service outage where a broadband is normally 24-48 hours.

Why should I buy a leased line?
To understand whether you need to buy a leased line or not you should first assess your business needs. For a small UK business with 5 or less staff then a business broadband service will probably meet your needs, but if you use VOIP telephony, Video Conferencing, VPN (WAN connectivity) are reliant on Cloud services and need a reliable connection where uptime is key to business productivity, then a leased line is the right solution for your business.
