A day in the life of..

Stream - The UK's Most Connected Network

Friday has arrived which can mean only one thing, it’s time to meet another member of the Stream Networks team. Today, we return to the sales team and meet its youngest member – Joe.

BP: As we’ve already met Byron from the sales team, I’m going to kick this blog off in different fashion by asking how your role differs from Mr Riley’s?
JB: Byron and I actually have very different roles, he works on the direct sales department, whereas I’m part of our channel sales team. I have my own set of accounts that I’ll liaise with day in and day out.

BP: What is your favourite part of your role?
JB: I really enjoy being responsible for my own set of accounts. It gives me the opportunity to build relationships with customers and have a healthy working relationship. I spend a lot of my day on the phone to customers which is something I really enjoy.

BP: How did you get into the telecoms industry?
JB: I started at Stream when I was 18 as an apprentice through the West Berkshire Training Consortium. I was part of a three strong apprentice team who have all recently completed our qualification in Customer Service. Stream was actually rewarded with West Berkshire Training Consortium Small Business Employer of the Year. As somebody who was part of this process, the award is something I am proud to be a part of.

Originally I was a part of the provisioning team however about a month into my life at Stream an opening in sales became available which I jumped to. I’m just celebrated my two year anniversary at Stream Networks and it’s crazy to think how much I have learned in that small space of time.

BP: What made you decide that an apprenticeship in this industry was for you?
JB: Well, if I’m honest, prior to arriving at Stream, I really wasn’t too sure what to expect. I didn’t know an awful lot about the industry, other than the research I had done before my interview. However, I knew that a job in the technology industry would be a fairly safe bet for me as I’m a part of the generation that has been surrounded by technology and probably take it for granted, I was interested to learn what happens behind the scenes.

BP: Last, but by no means least, the question that everyone looks forward to… What is one thing about that our readers might not know?
JB: Over the last year I have taken up Kickboxing. I love the adrenaline rush of sparring or fighting and it’s also really good fitness. I am currently a blue belt and hope to have my green by the end of the month. Although my overall goal is to achieve the promised land that is the black belt.
